Sweet Surrender – Day 4
January 04, 2018
“How are you today,” the young man behind the counter at the fast-food chicken shack asked.
“Not good,” I said.
“What’s the matter?” he said.
I didn’t know what the matter was. Later I would see that I had spent the last week caught in that nasty vortex of self-will, trying to figure something out, plow ahead, and ram through that wall. I wasn’t trying to control anything that big, but the battle had grown to monstrous proportions. How could I tell this young man that I was suffering from battle fatigue when I wasn’t even aware of it myself?
“I’m just a little out of it,” I said.
What I was out of was that gentle place called God’s Will. What I wasn’t out of yet was myself.
He handed me my chicken.
“I hope you’re on your way home,” he said.
I was. I surrendered that night.
Inventory Focus: Have you had any past experiences with surrender? How has that worked for you? Are you struggling with an issue right now and losing? Is there a person, place, or thing in your life that you’re trying to control? How’s that working for you? Like the young man said to me, I hope you’re on your way home.
