An Open Heart – Day 2
February 27, 2018
When I looked up jaded in the dictionary, I was surprised to learn that it doesn’t mean cynical, bizarre, or hardened. Jaded means bored, tired, overexposed, and exhausted.
It’s understandable that we shut down. It’s a protective response to too much pain. But after a while, being closed becomes boring. Too much exposure to anything—even something that’s good—can cause us to shut down. Balance is the key.
Application: It’s time to “unjade” ourselves when we find ourselves preaching to people instead of sharing honestly, when we haven’t felt anything except irritated and tired for a long time, when we’ve just been through one or a series of incidents where we’ve had to protect ourselves, when we lose our sense of wonder and awe.
