Just Listen

April 20, 2020

A friend called me on the phone and burst into a tirade of envy, resentment, anger, bitterness. I listened.

“I’m not sure what to do,” I said, when he finished.

“You don’t have to do anything,” he said. “Just listen.”

Gratitude Focus: We can be grateful for people who have the courage to share their dark side with us. We can be grateful for the people with whom we feel safe enough to talk honestly. We can also be grateful for all parts of ourselves and others. Gratitude doesn’t imply approval. In this case, it can be a tool to promote unconditional acceptance and love.
