Patience – Day 5

November 10, 2017

“Can you be patient?” a mother asked her two-year-old, as he demanded ice cream.

“Be patient,” he said. Then he innocently turned his attention to something else.

Action: Can you be patient with the person ahead of you who wants to count out every penny for exact change? Can you be patient when traffic doesn’t move as fast as you’d like? Can you be patient with newcomers in any field where you’re an old-timer? Can you be patient with children and older folks?

Can you be patient when people make mistakes or don’t grow, change, or get it as quickly as you’d like? Can you be patient with yourself, with the fact that you’re not further along than you are? Can you be patient with others and yourself as you each grind through a process in which the timing isn’t necessarily ours?

I was listening to a conversation at a coffee shop one day. One man was complaining to another man about a business deal that wasn’t materializing.

“You know the guy’s word is good,” the other man explained. “You know it’s going to happen sooner or later. Can you be patient?” he said.

What are you waiting for? Can you be patient too?
