Service – Day 4
June 21, 2018
“I’m not going to go work at the Goodwill,” a man insisted one day. “That’s where I draw the line with this service thing.”
“I don’t think anybody said you have to,” I replied.
It’s not just service that counts. It’s service with a smile. Do what feels right to you. But maybe push yourself a little.
Inventory Focus: Are you engaged in activities that truly benefit others, even if it’s something as simple as making someone a sandwich? Does what you do add to others’ quality of life? Sometimes it’s not what you do as much as how you do it. Are you doing something that looks like it serves others but doing it resentfully, carelessly, or with an attitude of WIIFM (what’s in it for me)?
“I used to make every decision based on what’s in this for me,” a man said to me. “I finally learned that the less there is for me, the more there really is for me—in whatever I’m trying to do.”
